Karakoram International University Business Incubation Centre. (KUBIC)

Karakoram University Business Incubation Centre (KUBIC) is a project of HEC to encourage universities to impart the basic entrepreneurial thinking to the students while they are studying. Soon after its inception by the end of 2015, KUBIC established linkages with leading NGOs of the area working on the similar themes and started programs related to Entrepreneurship with a focus on creating an entrepreneurial eco-system in the university. KUBIC is now actively engaged with the students and market actors through seminars, consultative workshops, and training programs.

Facilities

Physical Support:

Incubates will be provided furnished offices with following facilities:

  • Internet access
  • Dedicated telephone line.
  • Photocopy, printing and mailing via courier.
  • Conference room facilities equipped with multi-media
  • Display of company’s profile on KIU/BIC website
  • Kitchenette/ Canteen services for tea, coffee, meals, and soft drinks.

Business and Professional Support Services

  • Access to KIU library and digital resources.
  • Networking opportunities within KIU.
  • Support in marketing through website and use of KIU/BIC name.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship through professionals and specialized consultants.
  • Identification of various funding options for incubates.
  • Advisory services in business plans formulation, marketing strategies, project selection etc.
  • Training on basics of entrepreneurship.
  • Advice in legal and financial consultancy

Business incubation is a business support process that accelerates the successful development of start-up and fledgling companies by providing entrepreneurs with an array of targeted resources and services. These services are usually developed or orchestrated by incubator management and offered both in the business incubator and through its network of contacts. A business incubator’s main goal is to produce successful firms that will leave the program financially viable and freestanding. These incubator graduates have the potential to create jobs, revitalize neighborhoods, commercialize new technologies, and strengthen local and national economies.
Critical to the definition of an incubator is the provision of management guidance, technical assistance and consulting tailored to young growing companies. Incubators usually also provide clients access to appropriate rental space and flexible leases, shared basic business services and equipment, technology support services and assistance in obtaining the financing necessary for company growth.

1.   First Batch Incubates at KUBIC

The first batch of incubates has been inducted by KUBIC in the first week of March 2017. Through a standard procedure and after a Business Plan Competition Eight ideas were offered placement in the KUBIC. These incubates are working under the supervision of mentors to turn their raw ideas into successful start-ups.

BIC announced the second phase of Incubation Program where 55 candidates applied and after a two stage scrutiny process, the following 11 candidates have been selected:

A Competition for Business Ideas was held among the participants of KIU students for the business ideas in collaboration with Ministry of Planning Development & Reform in Centre for Social Entrepreneurship Islamabad.

  1. Fourth Batch Incubates at KUBIC

University of Oregan came in collaboration with Karakoram International University to promote and develop the women enterprenurship and in June 2019 the competition held in the presence of Jurry of senior professors of University of Oregan and Karakoram International Unversity.

Four among the 15 women eterprenures are selected to visit University of  oregan USA, Eugene city in the month of October. They will visit different related businesses and the enterpreneurs will be having trainings how to scale up their businesses.

Dice Fellowship Program

Dice is Developing Inclusive and Creative Economies. It is Launched by the British councuil for Pakistan, focusing employment, underemployment and poor qualty employment in emerging economies. It also adressing lack of inclusive growth which translates into instability, political diseffection and affecting growth.

DICE selected 28 enterprenures for a six months fellowship program by conducting Business Plan Competition in August, 2019.

These enterprenures will learn through workshop style trainigs and digital courses. They will get mentors to meetup face to face. Through these activities they will get their related networking and stakeholders.
