A group of researchers from the University of Utah (Ms. Jewel Lund, Mr. Azahar Zaheer) and Mr. Ghulam Hussain Dar from Mehran Engineering University) interested in the hydrology of the Upper Indus Basin (UIB). Specifically, want to understand the spatiotemporal variability in the contribution of snowmelt, glacier, and groundwater to the tributaries of the Indus River visited KIU. Currently, they are focusing on the Shimshal River.
They will be sampling river, glaciers, snow and groundwater springs in the Shimshal catchment on bi-monthly to monthly basis and will be measuring stable isotopes, trace elements and major ions of the water samples to inform our study. In the future, they are interested to work jointly with KIU in the fields of Glaciology, Disaster Management, and Climate Change. We shall be working on joint projects and potential students’ exchange. In this regard, there soon will be an MOU signed with the University of Utah, Mehran Engineering University.
