Cloth Drive and Skills Development Workshop by Active citizenship Community of KIU

As part of Active Citizenship course taught in Karakoram International University, Students of Business Management, Media & Communication and International Relations have had the opportunity to put their community development knowledge into practice and held a ‘Cloth Drive Campaign’, a philanthropic activity that requests clothing donations from community members for the benefit of vulnerable people of society on the auspicious day of Eid-ul-Fitr. The campaign drive was held between Wednesday, May 30, 2018, and June 1, 2018, and it was an overnight success. Active Citizen Community of Karakoram International University collected Cloths and other gifts, owing to the generosity of KIU Family.

On June 11, 2018, an event was organized by active citizens of KIU at Musharraf Hall. Students from Special Education Complex were specially invited to attend the event. Vice Chancellor Karakoram International University, Professor Dr. Engr. Attaullah Shah, Dean Social Sciences & Humanities Prof Dr. Muhammad Ramzan, and Director Special Education Abdul Hakeem attended the event among other faculty members and administrative staff.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr. Eng. Attaullah Shah, while speaking to participants reiterated Karakoram International University’s commitment for social uplifting and community development and said “the quality of our caring will show particularly in the manner that we treat those that are most vulnerable in our society. Amongst those vulnerable sectors count the differently able people, and at KIU, we are developing strategies to adopt barrier-free access systems at the campus to facilitate mobility for differently able students.” He also appreciated community services rendered by KIU students and particularly Active Citizenship Community and encouraged them to be a role model for society.

Dean Social Sciences & Humanities, Prof Dr. Muhammad Ramzan appreciated the hard work of Active Citizens and said that he is pleased by the enthusiasm of students and this drive has allowed them to bring some fresh ideas to charities involved.

The Coordinator Active Citizenship Program Mr. Asif Sanaullah briefed about Active Citizenship activities and said that ‘In last year cloth drive was arranged by Active citizens Community and 1500 dresses were donated to a philanthropic institution. This year we have collected more than 3000 cloths, shoe and toys donations from KIU family and it will be distributed to philanthropic organizations like Akhuwat and FESD environmental protection society, which will be further distributed to vulnerable people through their network.

The Vice-Chancellor and Dean Social Sciences and Humanities later distributed Shields and Certificates among Special Education Students and Organizers of the event and they also handed over donations to representatives of Philanthropic Organizations.
