1st Meeting of Academic Council

As per clause 22, page 13 Karakoram International University (KIU), order 2008, the Academic Council is a statuary body of the Karakoram International University, aimed at regulating and promoting the academic functioning of the university and constituent colleges.

The powers and responsibilies of this council are to approve the policies, academic programs and procedures pertaining to the quality of academic programs and student related activities and functions. After the promulgation of KIU order 2008, the 1st meeting of Academic Council of KIU was held on September 19, 2014, at KIU Auditorium.

The Vice Chancellor of KIU Professor Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan Chaired the meeting. The members of Academic council and all senior faculty members and management staff attended the meeting on the special invitation by the worthy Vice Chancellor of KIU. The Additional Registrar Academics Mr. Abdul Hameed Lone welcomed the members and all participants of Academic Council to the 1st Meeting of Academic Council after the proclamation of Karakoram International University order 2008. Mr. Zakir Assistant Professor; Education Department recited the verses from Holy Quran, subsequently, the honorable Vice Chancellor of KIU Professor Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan opened the Meeting of Academic Council as Chair of the council, which gives legalization and legitimacy of the decisions taken at this meeting. The Chair suggested that, to further strengthen the Academic Council of KIU, an external representation from other renowned universities of Pakistan is essential. The house agreed to put this suggestion before the KIU syndicate and senate to have their approval to include the representations of experienced professionals from other renowned universities of Pakistan as members in KIU Academic Council.

The council after having intensive discussions and deliberations upon the proposed agenda approved the following major decisions.

• Scheme of studies of fall semester 20014

• Three existing academic departments

• Department of Mining Engineering, as new department of KIU

• Specialized courses in department of Agriculture and Food Technology
