Seminar on Joint Forest Management in the Department of Forestry, Range and Wildlife Management, University of Karakoram

The Department of Forestry, Range and Wildlife Management, University of Karakoram, Gilgit organized a one-day Seminar on July 2, 2021. The session was attended by the majority of the graduating students and all the faculty members. The guest speaker was Athar Ali Khan, forestry experts and presently a PhD scholar in the University of Washington, USA. Dr. Zafar Khan, Chairman of the Department introduced the guest speaker with the audience, highlighting his endeavors in the field of Joint Forest Management. Mr. Ather Ali Khan deliberated on the emerging concept of Joint Forest Management (JFM) and its constituent elements. He stressed on understanding the true concept of JFM and its role in improving the livelihoods of rural communities in mountain forests. He narrated successful examples of JFM from Asia Pacific region, including South Asia and our neighboring countries. He responded to multiple queries asked by BS students of various semesters in the Question-Answer session.  The graduating students showed great interest in the concepts of JFM and realized its deeper understanding and pledged to take it in field action to turn it into reality and success in the forestry sector.
