The third Two Days “International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering, Management, and Sciences (ICETEMS) 2018” concluded at KIU. It was held on 10 and 11 November 13, 2018, at Musharraf Hall KIU. This has been a great and big gathering of Researchers, Doctors, Engineers, Management and Corporate world icons.

The conference started on 10th November. Major General Ehsan Mehmood, Force Commander of Gilgit Baltistan graced the occasion as the chief guest while Mr. Jafarullah Khan, Deputy Speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly graced the occasion as a guest of honor. Brig (Rtd.) Dr. Safdar Ali Shah, DG CPEC HEC also happened to be one of the guests.

Engineer, Prof. Dr. Ataullah Shah, Vice Chancellor KIU and the Chair of the Conference, offered the welcome / reception note and welcomed the delegates from around the globe to the conference. The worthy Vice Chancellor reflected on the contribution of KIU to the society of Gilgit-Baltistan and to Pakistan at large and said that KIU has provided well equipped and educated manpower and has provided the country with over ten thousand graduates in its eighteen years of age. The classes of Mining Engineering have been functional and the Civil Engineering programme shall be started next year.

Mr. Jafarullah Khan, the Deputy Speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly, urged that the new generation of GB should equip it with the best knowledge and skills to cope with the challenges of the contemporary world and make positive use of the resources. They have the potential to be the torchbearers for the youth of Pakistan.

Major General Ehsan Mehmood, Force Commander Gilgit Baltistan, the chief guest, delivered an exclusive speech on different aspects related to the education of GB, the geography of GB and the responsibilities of Youth of GB in the wake of newly emerging challenges. He applauded the potential of the locus of GB and the potential of the youth of GB. He urged the need to open more departments at KIU like GB Studies, GB cultural and Historical studies and so on. Mr. Ehsan Mehmood announced to establish a special army endowment fund for research at KIU and presented a one million rupees cheque as a first installment and vowed to give one million rupees next year. The august chief guest openly and overtly expressed that they will help all those who are out of schools, colleges or universities due to lack of finances and urged that they would not leave anyone out school in want of money.

The session concluded with the exchange of shields to the guests.

The proceedings of the first day of the conference started with the plenary session wherein various keynote speakers delivered their presentations.

Technical Sessions of Day 1 November 10, 2018

The technical sessions of the Day 1 started parallel in three different venues. The participants were divided into three groups viz. Pure sciences, Engineering and Mathematics, and Management and Sciences.

The day concluded with a cultural / Sufi musical show by the students of Hunza campus followed by the distribution of certificates and shields.

Concluding Session / CPEC Session

 

The conference concluded with a special session called CPEC session. The session was presided over by HE Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, CM, GB. The worthy VC KIU and the chair of the conference offered the welcoming note and deliberated on the key priorities of the university leadership include a fair meritocracy, out-come based learning, special focus on quality enhancement. The worthy VC also mentioned the opening of the Mining Engineering programme and urged that the Civil Engineering programme shall be started from next year.

Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Safdar Ali Shah, DG CPEC HEC, delivered a detailed presentation on challenges and opportunities of CPEC.

The signing of Memorandums of Understanding between KIU and different organizations took place during the concluding session. Among the organizations were Model Group of Industries and Model Mag.

After the signing of MOUs, Dr. Muhammad Ramazan, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, presented the recommendations of the conference.

In his concluding, the Chief Guest, HE Hafiz Hafeez-ur- Rehman congratulated the university for organizing such huge gathering of scholars from around the world and paid homage to the contribution of varsities in nations making. He admired the contribution of universities in devising policies for social and national progress. Excellency assured the university of all possible help for the university research endowment funds. The conference concluded with the vote of thanks offered by Dr. Ifzal Ahmed, Secretary of the conference.
