Three-day training workshop on Academic Reading Writing Skills and Tools for Effective Research

A Three-day workshop on “Academic Reading Writing Skills and Tools for Effective Research” was organized by the Department of Modern Languages, Karakoram International University Gilgit Baltistan in collaboration with Learning Innovation Division Higher Education Commission Islamabad. The workshop was held from September 11th to 13th 2018. Twenty-Three faculty members from different departments of Social Sciences and humanities participated in the workshop.

The main objectives and foci of the workshop were to develop the academic reading and writing skills of the participants and to do the hands-on practice of different software that is used for academic reading and writing in research. Dr. Muhammad Shahid Nawaz from Islamia University Bahawalpur was the resource person for this workshop. The opening ceremony of the workshop was held on 11th September 2018 and chief guest of the ceremony was Vice-Chancellor Karakoram International University, Dr. Attaullah Shah. Vice Chancellor KIU and Dean Social Sciences, Dr. Ramzan not only attended the opening and closing ceremonies of the workshop rather they found this workshop very important and useful therefore they attended the workshop sessions too. VC KIU and Dean Social Sciences Dr. Ramzan and the Head of Department Ms. Shamim Ara Shams highly appreciated the initiatives of the Learning Innovation Division for continuous professional development of higher education Faculty.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah during his address in the opening and closing ceremonies suggested the faculty and management of KIU to conduct follow up sessions of this workshop and to develop a pool of researcher from the participants of this workshop who could further develop their skills and expertise in using software tools for Quantitative and Qualitative data analysis in research. This pool of researchers will further conduct training of the faculty within and outside the university.

Faculty members of KIU who were the participants of the workshop found this workshop very useful and emphasized on conducted such workshops in future as well so that maximum faculty members could get the opportunity to develop their expertise in the field of research. All the faculty and management of KIU thanked Learning Innovation Division Higher Education Commission for providing learning opportunities to the faculty so that they may develop their professional skills and expertise in the field of andragogy and research. At the end of workshop certificates to the participants of the workshop were distributed.
