
A delegation from the China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre on Earth Sciences (CPJRC) met with the Vice Chancellor of Karakoram International University (KIU), Professor Dr. Attaullah Shah, to discuss mutual cooperation and the future development of ongoing joint initiatives.
According to KIU’s Public Relations Office, the meeting focused on advancing the collaborative efforts at the China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre established at KIU. Discussions included strengthening scientific cooperation between the two nations under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.
Key areas of discussion included ongoing research in Earth Sciences being conducted by CPJRC, covering fields such as geology, meteorology, water resources, environmental studies, and disaster risk reduction along the CPEC route.
The delegation also shared updates on the Karakoram Observation and Research Station on Natural Hazards and Environment (KORS), a joint venture between CPJRC and KIU. This station focuses on studying natural hazards in the Himalayan, Hindu Kush, and Karakoram mountain ranges.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Attaullah Shah reaffirmed KIU’s commitment to supporting CPJRC’s mission, which is dedicated to sustainable development, environmental protection, and food security in the region. The meeting also explored new avenues for cooperation, such as joint academic programs, faculty and researcher exchanges, and international training workshops focused on resource and environmental data sharing.
Both sides reiterated their dedication to leveraging science and technology for the development and socio-economic uplift of the region.
