
Dr. Iftikhar Ali, a distinguished faculty member of Karakoram International University (KIU), was invited to deliver a keynote lecture at the 20th International Conference on Waste Management and Technology held at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.
Representing KIU and Pakistan, Dr. Iftikhar presented on the topic:
“Opportunities for Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Biogas Generation Through Anaerobic Digestion of Waste in the Local Community of Gilgit, Pakistan.”
The conference, hosted by Professor Jinhui Li, Tenured Professor at Tsinghua University and Executive Director of the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, brought together nearly 700 global experts, scientists, industry leaders, and policymakers. The event focused on the theme:
“Accelerating the Development of New Quality Productivity of Solid Waste and Promoting the Construction of ‘Waste-Free Cities'”, highlighting China’s progress and global cooperation in sustainable solid waste management.
Organized by Tsinghua University in collaboration with several leading national and international environmental institutions, including the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and China Institute of Environmental Sciences, the conference served as a global platform for knowledge exchange and innovative solutions.
Prominent figures such as Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment Li Gao, Academician Hao Jiming, and several top environmental leaders addressed the audience, underscoring the critical role of waste management in global environmental sustainability.
Dr. Iftikhar’s participation marked a significant international engagement for KIU, showcasing research from Gilgit-Baltistan on a global stage and reinforcing the university’s commitment to sustainable development and international collaboration.
