Karakoram International University (KIU) organized a significant event focusing on climate change and its regional impact in Gilgit-Baltistan. The event brought together policymakers, environmental experts, and academic professionals to foster dialogue and collaboration for sustainable climate solutions.
According to KIU’s Public Relations Department, the event aimed to highlight the environmental challenges facing Gilgit-Baltistan, especially the increasing threats from Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs), floods, landslides, and shifting weather patterns.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Atta Ullah Shah, in his address, emphasized the urgent need for climate strategies, noting the alarming rate at which glaciers are melting and its devastating impact on local communities. He stressed the importance of coordinated, timely action to mitigate these threats.
The event was jointly organized by KIU, Community World Service Asia (CWSA), along with other stakeholders.

Representatives from CWSA, GB-EPA, UNDP Pakistan, and environmental specialists shared insights on early warning systems, community-based disaster risk reduction, eco-tourism, and the integration of local knowledge with modern technologies.
Interactive sessions focused on sustainable tourism, forest restoration, and community-led conservation models, while experts presented papers highlighting the importance of preserving GB’s unique natural and cultural heritage.
