Karakoram International University (KIU) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a Disaster Response Centre at KIU, following the directive of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The Centre aims to strengthen research, awareness, and early warning/response systems to address the growing challenges of natural and climate-induced disasters in Gilgit-Baltistan. It will also offer internship opportunities for students and faculty with NDMA, enabling them to build hands-on expertise in disaster preparedness and management.

The initiative comes at a critical time, as recent disasters in GB and across Pakistan highlight the urgent need for capacity building and proactive strategies to safeguard communities.
