
Karakoram International University (KIU) hosted an important session on Digital Transformation as part of the National Human Development Report (NHDR) 2024, in collaboration with UNDP Pakistan, Code for Pakistan, and KIU.
The event was attended by Gilgit-Baltistan’s Minister for Planning & Development Raja Nasir Ali Khan, KIU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah, UNDP Pakistan Deputy Resident Representative Ms. Van Nguyen, officials from various institutions, and a large number of students from schools, colleges, and universities.
The session aimed to highlight the role of digital technologies in promoting human development in Pakistan and emphasized the need for equal access to digital tools and resources.
In his address, Minister Raja Nasir Ali Khan stated that the government has been committed to empowering youth since 2021, recognizing their critical role in national development. He praised Vice Chancellor Dr. Attaullah Shah for his efforts in promoting quality education and research at KIU.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah, in his welcome remarks, emphasized the importance of digital transformation in driving societal progress. He noted that KIU has undergone complete digitalization and is actively working with institutions like UNDP to achieve further development.
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Ms. Van Nguyen highlighted the global momentum toward digital change and the importance of advancing in this direction for inclusive growth.
The event also featured two “Tech Tales” sessions, where four entrepreneurs shared their experiences in using technology to overcome social barriers and drive innovation.
The session aimed to create awareness about NHDR 2024 findings, spark dialogue on digital inclusion, and build an enabling environment for collaboration between the public and private sectors, civil society, banks, media, and youth. Special focus was given to enhancing business efficiency, market access, and overcoming geographical challenges in Gilgit-Baltistan through digital tools.
