Workshop on Open Mine Design jointly organized by Institution of Engineers, KIU and Jaffer Brothers at Islamabad.

One-day workshop on Open Mine Design was held at Islamabad jointly organized by Institution of Engineers Islamabad, KIU and Jaffer Brothers Islamabad at Islamabad. Vice Chancellor KIU Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah was the Chief Guest at the occasion. Dr. Safi Ur Rahman HoD Department of Mining Engineering KIU and Engr. M. Yousaf from Jaffer Brothers were the resource persons. Two sessions, one each on Mineral Resources of Pakistan and Open Out Mine Design Technique were delivered by Engr. Yousaf and Dr. Safi respectively. Dr. Safi highlighted the importance of design process, sequencing and cost analysis etc for open out mining. He also informed that majority of mineral exploitation firms are using unsustainable techniques which lead no more waste and less value. The modern techniques and technologies are used to optimize the use of mineral resources in optimal way. In his address Vice Chancellor KIU appreciated the hard work of mining Engineering Department at KIU and arranging the seminar. He highlighted that no doubt Pakistan is blessed with abundant natural resources, yet it’s sustainable exploration and mining is need if the day. The use of modern technologies can help in this direction He emphasized over the young Engineers to learn about the modern tool of design and optimization to conserve the natural resources of Pakistan
