Tasawar Baig is an Associate Professor of Politics and International Studies, and Associate Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Karakoram International University (KIU) Gilgit. Since 2003, he has been affiliated with KIU as a regular faculty member. He was also the inaugural Director of KIU's three initiatives, including KIU International Office, Karakoram Centre for Cultural Studies and Heritage (KCH), now known as Karakoram Institute of Gilgit-Baltistan Studies, and the China Study Centre, KIU.

Tasawar has earned his PhD in International Studies from the Old Dominion University, Norfolk Virginia, USA under the Fulbright doctoral scholarship program. His PhD Studies specialize in Interdependence & Transnationalism, Comparative Politics, World Order & International Relations, and Area Studies. His education also includes an International Masters in Asian Studies from the Center for East and Southeast Asian Studies, Lund University, Sweden; a B.A (Honours) in I.R. & Sociology with Masters of Arts in International Relations, University of Karachi, Pakistan.

He has successfully completed professional short courses from University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), Philadelphia, USA and Lund University, Sweden.

His research interests and publications are now focused on Interdependence, Transnationalism, Comparative Politics & Area Studies, Globalization, Cultural Diffusions and Social Change, Geo-Politics, Enthno-nationalism, History of International Relations,

Tasawar has successfully earned national and international exposure and is regularly invited for talks, seminars, conferences and professional visits/ trainings. Among the list of his academic engagements with other organizations, includes, earned practical experiences during active role play and participation in various Model, Crisis Simulation and Complex Contingency Planning Exercise Purple Solace during 2009 to 2013 with: Allied Command Transformation (ACT) NATO -USA; Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC) Joint and Combined Warfighting School USA, National Defense University (NDU), Norfolk, Virginia; Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC) and Model United Nations Society (MUN) at Old Dominion University (ODU), Virginia USA. And also, with the Senior Management Wing of National Management College (erstwhile NIPA) at Lahore & Islamabad are the prominent ones, where he has been invited to deliver talks since spring 2015.

Tasawar also won a number of national vis-à-vis international certificates and awards for his academic and voluntary Leadership services. He is the first recipient of KIU's best University teacher award, a national award for university teachers that is “Best University Teacher Award”. The Award was conferred by Dr. Atta ur Rehman, Chairman Higher Education Commission, Pakistan at HEC, Islamabad, during the national Best University Teacher’s Award ceremony.
