Establishment of School of Education
With the financial support of USAID, a new building for the proposed School of Education will be established in Gilgit campus. The state-of-the-art building facility will also address such issues as laboratories, library, work stations, faculty offices, instructional technologies, video conferencing, seminar room, conference halls, etc.
Pre-STEP Teacher Education Program
In 2008, KIU was the first university in the country that launched the USAID supported four-year teachers’ preparation program [B.Ed. Honors] in Pakistan. The first batch of the said program will be graduated by the end of the year 2014. The B.Ed. four year program will remain an integral part of the proposed school of education.
Research Project
A USAID funded research project (0.8 Mil) was completed and presented during an international educational conference in August 2013 in Karachi by the faculty of Department of Educational Development. The study titled “The Motivation of New Prospective Teachers in Associate Degree in Education [ADE] and B.Ed. [Hons] Elementary programs in Gilgit-Baltistan” seeks to understand the motivation of the new prospective teachers and their specific reasons to join teaching career. The study was published in a HEC recognized national journal.
